*well it is time for a waltz. so here is my dance in three-four. grateful & pleased that mediaapparat commissioned me with this stairway light installation setup for the strauss new dimensions museum. a multidimensional museum & audiovisual walk through the life of johann strauss son. the museum is based across secession & opened in november 2024. as for every act & section in the museum there is some audio reacting on the position of the visitors, i tried to find a synergy in between information, visual storytelling & emotion. thanks to the beautiful cd & provided imagery i was able to work with a lovely toolbox as starting point. for the collage i worked on the term the rise of the phoenix. the visual transfer is based on the waltz of johann strauss son ‘phoenix’s wings’. op. 125. composed in the year 1853. beside original fragments, i enhanced the mixed media collage artwork with biographic matters, the death of his father, the role of the mother & the three sons. his father died due to scarlet fever in 1849, pushed & managed by their mother anna – the way was open for the sons to continue the path to recognition. above all johann later called the king of waltz. for the central figure i decided to combine the mythological bird with the term of effort & climbing the stairs to international recognition beside handling some serious illness. i also tried to hide some fragments of the typhus symptoms which strauss son suffered. the biography of the family & the time they lived was tangled up with several serious strokes of fate. i am thankful that i could enhance my little knowledge in music history & to work on such a lovely project like this. i am always into biographic & historical matters, this kind of teases my nostalgic soul & my adventurous ghost can travel to other centuries. life writes intense storylines. i love to tell hidden stories in stories. thanks to the art direction & project management & congrats to mediaapparat for making this extensive exhibition real. i enjoyed my first walk through – i enjoyed this collaboration. if you have some time left – you can take a look at strauss international success a second project i was able to realize within the exhibition space.♥︎
